Dear Amy,

My boyfriend continues to lie to me. Between our friends I find out he's been seen in one place when he tells me he's at another place. I continue to ask why and he simply never explains. He tells me I'm checking up on him and making an argument before I get an answer out of him. I don't want to lose him so I try not to push it. I love him so much, what should I do.

Dear Troubled in Jersey,

Trust is a very important part of a relationship. Though it seems that you boyfriend is lying to you, he may just be having trouble adjusting to the "commitment" part of the relationship. Most men are used to the freedom they had prior to getting involved. This is a very hard thing to let go. It doesn't mean they don't care, it just takes them a little time to get acclimated to the relationship. I would give him a little extra space for now and see how it goes. If the lying persists, then you need to make a decision - Do you want to remain with someone that is constantly lying to you, or do you move on? I feel that without trust there is no way to have a healthy relationship; you will be miserable and will never feel secure. You have to make sure that your happiness comes first.
