Hi Amy,

My problem is that whenever I go out my boyfriend logs onto porn and masturbates with the help of some enhancers which mean that I am usually aware that what he has been up to.

Is it normal for him to do this???

L.F.

Amy Says!
Note: First I emailed L.F. to get a bit more information. I needed to know exactly what L.F. meant by "enhancers", I found out that L.F.'s boyfriend was sniffing nitrates.

Hi L.F.,

Are you having trouble with the fact that he is masturbating, using enhancers or looking at porn.

The act of masturbation is a normal and healthy activity and is something that you and your boyfriend could even try together. This will take away any of the stigmas that are associated with masturbation and may enhance your sexual relationship with your boyfriend. The "enhancers" may be contributing to the amount of time your boyfriend spends masturbating and looking at porn. He may be "addicted" to the sensation that the enhancers are giving him during his climax. The nitrates or "poppers" will cause the blood vessels to open, the heart to beat quicker and the blood to rush to the brain. This gives the "rush" effect. However they may cause dizziness, a flushed face and a pounding headache. This effect will only last a couple of minutes and may also be the reason he is doing it so often. Although this product is believed to enhance the orgasm, the effect it has on the blood vessels will make it difficult to maintain an erection.

I suggest that you talk to him and let him know how you feel about it. Be honest and direct. Let him know that you care about him and are genuinely concerned. I have searched the web for some more information on nitrates for you and here are some of the warnings associated with them:

# Excessive use of nitrates may result in a reduction of oxygen in the blood.
# Occasionally people develop a rash around the lips, cheeks and nose. This will clear-up when people stop using it.
# Anyone with anaemia, glaucoma or a heart condition should avoid the use of poppers at all costs.
# Poppers are highly flammable. Keep well away from any naked flames such as cigarettes, matches, lighters, joints, candles, fires, etc.
