| Dear Ask a Man, What's the difference between love, lust and being in love. ~ Nora |
| Dear Nora , Wow, a nice easy question! Ok, for me Love is caring about someone and wanting them to be happy. It's doing whatever you can to help them, even if they sometimes don't reciprocate. You don't think twice about doing it because you love them. Now, lust is another animal altogether, being in lust is like being on a roller coaster, when your around someone you will have the incredible urge to jump them, and then do it! You will find your every waking moment consumed by them, what they smell like, what they feel like, lust is like eating chinese food, you have to have them, you get them, then a half an hour later you have the urge for them again. Being In love is stopping in the middle of your hectic day, day dreaming about that person and then getting a big, shit eating grin on your face when you remember something funny they did or said. Being in love is when your whole body tingles, and you get a big ole pit in your stomach when they walk in the room. Being in love is the greatest feeling in the world, when nothing else matters, when you could have nothing but still be happy, just as long as you were together. Craig, 20 Something... |
Nora, These things can mean very different things for different people. But for me I think that you can love many different things: your car, your dog or a good cup of coffee. You can also lust after different things: a better job, or a beautiful woman. Being in love usually means you have a special person in your life: like being in love with your spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend. I think that when you say you're in love with someone, it is because you feel that it is someone that you truly cannot live without. Scott, 30 Something... |

Hello Nora, Lust is what you feel when you first start dating someone, animal magnetism. Love is what you feel the first couple of years of a relationship, being in love is what you feel when things settle down and your in a long term relationship. The explanation is somewhat simplistic, but works. Alfred, 50 Something... |
