Dear Ask a Man,

Do all men really cheat? A male friend was telling me that no matter what, every man will cheat, if given a chance, even if they are married. Is this really true? ~ Name Withheld by Request

Hi,

Cheating is about respect. If you respect the person your with, and truly love them, you won't cheat. It's as simple as that. It's a selfish act that hurts you and the one you love. If a man is attracted to another woman and finds that he cannot control himself then he should break it off with his current partner. Cheating is nothing more than a selfish act that hurts everybody involved. Not every guy will cheat, even if given the chance. Trust me.

Hello,

Not all men cheat. While the numbers show that most men cheat, some men take their commitments seriously and have enough self control to keep it in their pants.

The male of the species is, by nature, a "hunter" and indeed there is some sort of primal instinct to "hunt". But, whether they follow through on this urge, or resist it is really based on the individual beliefs and personal philosophy of each man. So, no, your friend is wrong in making this generalization. Although most all men have a healthy streak of curiosity, many, many of them keep it in check.

I would be interesting in knowing how the other men answered this question. I would have to say most men do cheat and would if they thought they wouldn't get caught. With that said, in most cases it has very little to do with how we feel about our spouses / partners.
