He came into the diner every Friday and sat at the lunch counter I serviced. His was pleasant and yet he looked aloof. He spoke only if spoken too but was friendly with many of the other regular customers. I personally look forward to lunch time because of him. I found myself looking for him if he arrived late or missed a week coming into the diner.

He's of a medium build, with sandy blonde hair neatly pulled into a bushy ponytail that hangs to his waist. He looks like the rough outdoors type and of course in great shape. He probably rocks climbs or skydiver. Um mmm, what a sexy package he is.

Today he has on ratty levis, a long sleeve T under a short sleeve T. Nothing different yet I can't seem to stop looking at him. He smiles at me and that's it, today is the day I decide to talk to him, more than my normal customers' chit chats about the weather.

Whatever he would say, I tried to respond more personally with my reply and smile. The more time I talk to him, the more my heart seemed to sink further into a fantasy of falling in love with him. Which is ridiculous since I really don't know him, he's a customer. I'm simply having a physical reaction to him because I haven't had time for a relationship in a while.

As time goes by, we become more comfortable with each other. One day he lets it slip that he was dumped and has been single for a while now. I of course said "We've all been there. It's like the songs say, sooner or later you find just what your looking for when you stop looking. Sometimes the very thing you are looking for is something you see every day and you don't even notice anymore." Ok I have got to stop saying corny things like lyrics from a country song. What was I thinking?

Weeks later he told me he remembered me saying that and recently gave it a lot of thought. I didn't think much of it at the time. Before leaving the diner that day, he pulled me to one side and said "You were right when you said sometimes something is right in front of you and you forget to notice." He smiled then, tilted his head and said "like you." Two little words that forever changed my life. I looked at him in shock, frozen in place, he stepped closer. My heart pounded inside my chest.

He said, "See, I was standing in line at the supermarket yesterday and I could feel someone staring at me. I turned around and saw a very attractive woman checking me out. Instead of returning the look and being interested, I found myself thinking that's not my type of woman. On the ride home I tried to think who my type is. And then it came to me, clear as day."

He leaned his head next to mine I could feel the heat of his breath on my neck and he smelled so good. He whispered in my ear, "You're my type. I look forward to seeing you every day." He asked, "Will you go out with me, let me take you to dinner. What do you say?" Of course I said yes and it turned out to be the right answer. My fantasy man is in my life for real.
