General Background:

I was born in Miami and at the age of ten my parents and I packed up and moved to Kona Island in Hawaii. My dad had been transferred there for his job and although I was sad, like any kid would be, I found that it was very easy to fit in and make new friends once we moved. I've always loved surfing. It's something my parents splurged on for me from a young age. So it made sense that my first job was at a surf board shop and that as I grew older I started to teach lessons. Now my best friend and I own our very own shop and have a small surfing school on the weekends for kids. It's such a great way to meet people and because we also have rentals, we meet a lot of tourists as well, which is one of my favorite parts of the job!

I managed to get through high school but didn't go any further in school for a long time, until my friend and I started to realize that our dream of owning our own little company was plausible. It was because of my hope in accomplishing this dream of  ours that I started to take night classes at a university in business management and in personal economics. We don't make too much profit off of our company yet so it's really helpful that I am able to to our taxes and account managing. My parents were good and never pushed school on me too hard. All they wanted was for me to finish high school. I think they knew from the beginning that I was never going to be someone who settles into a desk job of a trade. I was always too in love with the ocean and the waves.

What I Look For In A Woman:

I've had my fair share of long term relationships which eventually ended. I am a firm believer that you meet people for a reason and that once you have both learned everything that you can from each other, than the relationship ends. In all my relationships, our lives were going down two different paths and although it's really hard to accept, you have to let the other person go on their way, otherwise there would be resentment for the rest of the relationship. I've never had a relationship end badly which is really a godsend. Where as I used to look for more of a physical spark between myself and a potential partner, I now find myself looking for someone who will never bore me. Wait, maybe that sounds a bit harsh. What I mean is, I'm really looking to settle down with someone who has a curiosity about life much like the one that kids have. I look for someone who will be able to make me see things in a way that I would have never been able to do on my own. And hopefully I will be able to do the same thing for that person. I guess I'm looking a relationship that has a best friend type of connection at its very core.

That being said there are some other things that I'm looking for in a partner. Having an active lifestyle is a definite plus but not a necessity as long as they realize that the majority of my life is spent in the water and doing other sports. I'm not one who needs to be with their girlfriend 24/7. I really enjoy spending time doing my own thing, but if I could share my hobbies and passions with someone, I'm sure it would make the relationship all that much better!  In general I enjoy surrounding myself with people who are stress free. I hate drama and useless stress so being with someone who is able to just enjoy life and take it day by day is also something that I really want to find!

Hobbies:

Anything in the water. I think that sums it up. I love swimming, surfing, boating, snorkeling. Really anything that lets me be with my first love, the ocean. My idea of a perfect night is to have a group of good friends, a bonfire and some wine. I also recently took up playing the guitar. Can't say that I'm very good at it but it's something that I'm really enjoying!

Other things that I like doing once in awhile include camping, hiking and horse back riding. I've never been much of a club kind of person although I do like to go out and dance with beautiful women sometimes!

Favorite Experience:

I have two experiences that I want to share with all of you. By far my favorite experience was the first day that my friend and I opened up our shop. We were so excited yet realistically did not expect to have more than one customer that day. To our surprise we ended up having a store full of clients thanks to our other friends having spread the news of our opening by word of mouth and having secretly put up flyers all over the place for us! It was so amazing to finally see all of our hard work come to something. It was a day that I will never forget because in my mind, this was the first day of a new life for me.

A close second to this first experience is a short week that I had with a firecracker of a girl. I usually make a point of not getting too close to the tourists otherwise it is very easy to have your heart broken on a weekly basis but there was something about this girl from the first moment I met her that made me throw all of my usual precautions and rules right out the window.

She came into our shop quite by chance. She was on vacation here with her mother and aunt who were both celebrating their retirements. Stella, as I will call her, was only 25 and was brought along on the trip but didn't really want to do all the touristy stuff that her family was doing. She came into the store because her Mother and Aunt were in another neighboring store that sold the typical Hawaiian gifts. After watching her putter around the store for a bit, obviously just trying to waste some time and not knowing anything about surfing, I struck up a conversation with her. I'll never forget her eyes when I first walked up to her and started talking. They were this gorgeous olive green with warm amber freckles all around her pupils. It almost looked like she had gold flakes in her eyes. I couldn't stop staring into them and before I knew it I was offering to give her a private surfing lesson the following day. To my happiness she showed up again the next day, sporting a bikini and ready to try out something which was completely out of her normal behavior. I loved the fact that she was willing to try something so new to her, she's from Vermont originally and had never been in the ocean before. An even greater surprise was that even though she fell a hundred times, she kept getting back on that board ready to try again. I love her determination and the ease with which she made fun of herself.

One day turned into two and soon I was seeing her everyday. We didn't always surf, although she was getting good at it after just a few lessons which I found amazing. Instead I would take her around the island and give her a personal tour of my favorite spots that tourists don't really know about.  I would be lying if I didn't say that after just five days I was in love with her. She made me laugh and was honestly one of the most humble yet confident people that I have ever met. She was only on vacation for a week and a half and I had only had the pleasure of meeting her on her third day on the island.

Her week went by faster than I could have imagined and as fast as I had said hello I found myself saying goodbye. At first I had seriously considered trying a long distance relationship, something I never do. But she was the one who made me realize that we should just enjoy the memories of our week together rather than sully them up with the heartbreak of trying to make things work from far away. It was like she was the person I wanted to become but was just not there yet. I know a week in not necessarily considered a one time experience but it was a week that changed me. I found myself applying her determination to other things in my life, like trying to learn to play the guitar. I also found myself not getting mad at myself when I made mistakes but rather making fun of myself and just getting up on my feet and trying again. Stella was someone that I needed to meet in my life and every tourist season I watch the faces walking by the shop hoping that maybe she'll come back again.
