Everyone knows Athena is the goddess of wisdom, and Venus is the goddess of love (well, maybe not everyone, but if you’re reading this you probably do!) In ancient times, goddesses were worshipped according to things they protected (like lakes or forests) or certain human qualities they embodied (like justice or hospitality). But what about sex?

Many goddesses are associated with various aspects of sex and sensuality, like romantic love, jealousy, marriage, chastity, fertility, childbirth and lovemaking. This quiz is a fun way to see which goddess you most closely resemble, and just might reveal some aspects of your personality or relationship you were unaware of. See which letter you pick most often and check the answers at the end. If your answers are evenly split, then you’re a complex woman who embodies more than one goddess (lucky you).

1. You want to plan a very sensual night with your partner/lover. This will most definitely include:

A) Candles, music, caviar, champagne, sex toys, you know, the usual!
B) I know his tastes so well, the evening will be a well-orchestrated feat of perfection! From my perfume to tomorrow morning’s breakfast in bed…nothing will be overlooked.
C) I’ll leave it casual, I don’t like to overplan these things; besides I don’t want him to think I’m too “mushy”.
D) His favorite home-cooked meal, a DVD or two, snuggling on the sofa.

2. Your partner/lover wants to have sex, but for whatever reason, you aren’t interested (menstrual, fatigue, stress). What do you do?

A) Ask if he’d be happy with some sensual massage, or promise him a very sexy raincheck. Assure him it’s temporary and kiss him sweetly.
B) He might think I don’t love him or desire him enough, so I yield, but I will make sure he repays the favor at some point!
C) Tell him if he wants to throw in a porn video, fine, I’m going to go watch TV/read/take a bath!
D) He’ll understand. We don’t have to be sexual to show affection and we don’t take it personally if one of us isn’t in the mood.

3. You’re out for dinner with your man when he turns to stare openly at a beautiful woman. How do you react?

A) Smile knowingly at him; he knows how good he’s got it!
B) Worry he might want to have an affair, and wonder if he finds you attractive enough.
C) Shrug; if he wants to move on, he’ll have to have a good reason; and you don’t want to be with anyone who doesn’t want to be with you.
D) Ask him to pass the salt, and casually inquire if he knows her; you know he has nothing to hide, or he wouldn’t stare in such an obvious way.

4. Your partner has a sexual fantasy he would like to enact with you and you can tell it has taken some courage for him to talk about it. Assuming it’s not something you are opposed to doing, what do you say to him?
A) “Oooh, naughty! Do we have everything we need?”
B) “Am I the only woman you’ve ever done this with?”
C) “I never knew you wanted to do that, but okay!”
D) “Well, that sounds different. Let’s give it a try!”

5. Your idea of a sexy outfit to attract a man:
A) Whatever fits the moment. Nude, leather, lace, it’s all good!
B) Classy, sexy, everything must flatter my best features.
C) If I like how I look in the mirror, I assume he will.
D) Whatever is comfortable…what’s wrong with blue jeans?

6. Which of the following grouping of scents is most appealing to you?

A) Damask roses, pipe tobacco, cognac
B) Gardenias, Chanel No. 5, freshly-washed linens
C) Lilacs, lemons, sawdust
D) Strawberries, rain, talcum powder

7. Which of the following selections of food is most “sexy” to you?
A) Raw oysters, rare steak, chocolate mousse
B) Smoked salmon, roast lamb, crème brulee
C) Artichokes, Cornish game hen, poached pears
D) Shrimp skewers, pasta prima vera, ice cream

8. Your idea of the perfect romantic “getaway” for two is:
A) Something exotic and decadent! Paris, Hong Kong, Bali. Dancing, drinks, laughter and maybe some skinny dipping…
B) A classy hotel in a sophisticated city, with fine dining, artistic pursuits, and lots of time spent together.
C) Someplace we can both relax in the way we want, with enough choices to accommodate both our tastes.
D) Somewhere we don’t have to be around all the hustle and bustle—a lakeside cabin, a cozy bed and breakfast, plenty of time to sleep in!

If your answers were mostly A: you’re APHRODITE/VENUS. Goddess of love, sex and beauty. If you’re like this “alchemical” goddess, you are adventurous, whimsical, flexible and creative in all sexual matters. You are confident about your sexuality, and with any liaison, casual or committed, you make sure your beloved knows how special they are! You might show a tendency to use sex to avoid conflict in your relationships—make sure you cultivate good communication skills. Love is an art, but it is also found in everyday pleasures.

If your answers were mostly B: you’re HERA. Goddess of marital love, fidelity, and devotion. You prefer to be in a partnership at all costs and are very focused on how others are feeling. You are very loyal and devoted, but sometimes you may be too possessive or jealous. If not kept in check, these emotions can make you feel insecure in your relationship. If you are single, you may have jealousy issues surrounding dating. Remember, jealousy is all about self-esteem. If you feel you deserve someone’s attention and love, then you have no reason to worry about losing them. If they want to stray, that’s their problem!

If your answers were mostly C: you’re ARTEMIS/DIANA. Goddess of the hunt, of virginity and solitude. You may not feel the need for a strong romantic relationship, or if you are in one, you might feel the need for more “alone time.” Artemis teaches us how to love ourselves and how to create a life for ourselves that isn’t dependent on our partner. This attitude is healthy but if left unchecked can lead to self-absorption and insensitivity to others’ needs. Remember to keep a compassionate outlook.

If your answers were mostly D: you’re HESTIA. Goddess of the hearth and home. To you, relationships are comfortable and relaxed. You like being with people who accept you, and are not a fan of “drama.” This makes your relationships very strong and stable. But leave room for some occasional surprise and excitement, too. Sexual passion can fade over time and requires some imagination to coax it awake again. Try new things and encourage your partner to do the same, to avoid falling into a rut.
