A Serial BDSM Tale from the Victorian publication "The Pearl" Miss Coote's Confession, subtitled Or the Voluptuous Experiences of an Old Maid; In a series of Letters to a Lady Friend, was published by Anonymous in the legendary Victorian magazine The Pearl , and charts the progression of punishments that quickly turn into pleasures for their victims. The 18 issues of The Pearl are packed with short stories, naughty poems, ballads of sexual adventure, letters, limericks, jokes, gossip, and six serialized novels including "La Rose d'Amour," filled with inventive and exotic lovemaking scenes; "Miss Coote's Confession," with graphic descriptions of initiations into pleasure; and "Young Beginners," a collection of exuberant sexual adventures. Scatological and scandalous, The Pearl is definitely not for the straitlaced or pure of mind. The leading erotic publication of the Victorian Age, The Pearl first appeared in London in July, 1897. It lasted for a short, but glorious eighteen months, and then vanished: a victim of its own underground status, for income could never catch up with costs. During its year and a half of publication, The Pearl , serialized six novels that have earned the status of classics in the field of erotic literature. The magazine also featured short stories and verse celebrating the sensual pleasures and the pursuit of lovemaking in all its myriad forms. |
Oddly enough, "Miss Coote" later appeared as a character in the comic book, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen , recently made into a feature Hollywood film. |
