Sex has inspired artists and poets since the beginning of time. From the voluptuous figure of Venus of Willendorf, to the modern day brothels of Amsterdam, the imagery of eroticism and sex permeates our world. Civilizations have been built on it, and torn down by it. Even today we are familiar with the sexual adventures of the Gods and Goddess of mythology. We are intrigued by the courtesans of the past; the women who charmed some of Europe's most illustrious men, gaining among other things, power and education. Things that would have normally been denied them. Through sex, the complexity of human behavior becomes all to apparent.
As shown from the earliest cave paintings to the classical art of the Renaissance, sex has always played a predominate role in society. The invention of the still photograph and motion picture camera in the late 1800's, just made it more accessible to the public.
In this section of Sssh, we will take a journey through time and history, and learn what the courts of England were really like. We'll take a peek into the history of prostitution, and it's renowned counterpart, the Courtesan. Have their secrets been lost to us? Do they still exist?
